BACKGROUND
Please note, PEPA supports the construction of the court mandated WJWW water filtration plant but NOT the proposed site at the Airport. It’s counterintuitive for WJWW to build the filtration plant in the protected Kensico Watershed when they own an adjacent alternative property at 12 Stone Ridge that that can support the filtration plant. For more information and maps visit www.pepany.com or FAQ on PEPA’s website
WHY: Why does WJWW want to build at the airport in the watershed when they already own a nearby piece of land at 12 Stone Ridge Road (marked in green on the map) that has been approved by the Town Planning Board in 2002? Also building on the parcel WJWW already owns:
- Does not require a land swap with the Westchester County or approval from the FAA
- Does not deforest 6+acres of Airport greenspace property fronting on Purchase St.
- Does not create more impervious surface in the watershed and at the Westchester County Airport
- Does not negatively impact the residents living near the Airport Site or the Purchase Quakers
- Does not conflict with the Harrison Comprehensive Plan
- Will not result in a huge industrial plant and potential corridor visible from Purchase Street at a gateway to Purchase
